Amazing Thailand: 11 Days 10 Nights |
Thailand is a fascinating and exotic country to explore. Its rich traditional heritage and unique culture is a perfect foundation for the development of Bangkok, the capital city. Varieties of magnificent temples and palaces are waiting for you along the route from Bangkok up to the northern section of the country. Explore the historical site in Kanchanaburi, Ayutthaya and Sukothai. Enjoy many unique activities and sightseeing excursions’ in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, such as the royal winter palace and “Doi Tung” flower garden. You will visit the Myanmar border market at Mae Sai and take an elephant tour. After this fantastic journey you will then take the famous Bangkok Express train back to Bangkok.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Bangkok
We pick you up at your hotel in Bangkok. We depart to the pier for a long tail boat trip on the mighty Kings River, "Chao Phraya River", to explore Bangkok by boat over the river along the many klongs (canals), which is the most exciting way of experiencing life in Bangkok and see why Bangkok is called the "Venice of the East". We stop at the stunning Temple of Dawn, "Wat Arun". Around 12.00 pm we join a delicious lunch at the river. Then we return to the hotel.

Day 2: Bangkok
After breakfast at the hotel we visit the largest flower and vegetable market of Thailand. This market is well known as "Pak Klong Talaad", center of who sell flowers, fruits and vegetables. Farmers bring their farm products to this market daily. Then we continue to China town, a center for trading by the Chinese since they were moved from China some 300 years ago. Here we stroll through the small soi's and visit the Indo-Chinese food market.
After lunch we visit the most beautiful temple of the ancient Siam: The Grand Palace is a must for every visitor. In this temple complex we visit the Emerald Buddha, the most revered Buddha image of Thailand and other areas as The Throne Hall, the Coronation Hall and The Funeral Palace

Day 3 Bangkok
Today we will discover Bangkok by bike. Biking in a metropolis with million cars? No problem! It is possible! We will actually hardly see any cars. It is an absolute unique experience! See Bangkok by bicycle, how it was 30 years ago. Cycle along the klongs, through small communities, along fruit plantations, local schools, markets and temples. Make contact with the local Thai and suddenly you became the attraction.

Day 4: Bangkok - Ban Don Wai – River Kwai
Pick up at your hotel in Bangkok. Bangkok's concrete jungle seems far away when taking a short ride to Nakhon Pathom province. Ban Don Wai market is located on the banks of the Thachin River. The market is well known for typical Thai sweets and products from the nearby gardens and plantations as orchids, roses, jackfruit, pine apple and more exotic fruits. After a stroll along the market, we shouldn’t miss a unique boat ride into the green hart of this area, as here we can see real life at Thai plantations. Then we continue to the Rose Garden, where an excellent Thai awaits you.
After lunch you can enjoy a cultural performance of Thai dances, sports and traditional ceremonies. After this scene we continue to Kanchanaburi, where we visit JEATH war museum. Here we can see a realistic replica of a prisoner of war's living quarter containing sketches, and photographs describing life in the camps. Hereafter we continue to the war cemetery, the final resting place for over 6.000 allied prisoners of war and The Bridge over the River Kwai.

Day 5: Kanchanaburi - Ayutthaya - Phitsanuloke
In the former capital, "Ayuttaya", we visit three important temples: "Wat Chawathanaram", which is occupying a magnificent position on the west bank of the Chao Praya River, "Wat Phra Sri Sanphet" and ruins in the middle of the old capital and the giant bronze statue at Wat Mongkol Borpith. We continue our way to Phitsanuloke. Lunch will be held on the way. In the afternoon we arrive in Phitsanuloke, where we visit Wat Mahatat and its highly revered Buddha statue, Phra Buddha Jinaraj and a factory of Buddha sculptures.

Day 6: Phitsanuloke - Sukothai - Lampang - Chiang Rai
Today we drive to Sukothai, where we visit the ancient ruins at Sukothai Historical Park and Wat Sri Chum with its giant Buddha statue. Then we continue to Lampang, where we visit one of the most beautiful and famous temples in Northern Thailand, "Wat Phra That Lampang Luang". The eventful history of this 1000-year-old temple can be discovered in its many details. Round lunchtime we visit Dan Kwiang Forest market. This market is known for the variety of grilled, baked and roasted insects. Hereafter we continue our way to Chiang Rai.

Day 7: Chiang Rai - Golden Triangle - Chiang Rai
After breakfast we continue to the high north and visit the mountain of Doi Tung, "Wat Phra That Doi Tung". The area around Doi Tung has historically been the site of opium production, the poppy field guarded by hill tribe people. In 1988 Doi Tung Royal villa was built on the mountain, originally a summer residence for the mother of King Bhumipol. The villa has a beautiful garden with a large variety of all kinds of flowers and trees. The villa is situated in the mountains, which we call Switzerland of Thailand.
On the route we visit two hill tribe villages, Lahu and Akha. Then we continue to the most northern town in Thailand, Mai Sai. A bridge separates this border city. Here we visit the local market and shops. Hereafter we visit via the Golden Triangle route Sop Ruak, which is the point at which the borders of Thailand, Burma and Laos meet. We have lunch at the Mekong River. After lunch we continue by long tail boat along the border of these three countries and make a stop on Laos territory, where we visit the opium museum that displays artifacts relating to opium production. Then we continue to Chiang Saen along the river Banks of the Mekong. It will be a visit to one of the oldest towns in Thailand. We visit the ruins and "Wat Pa Sak", a teakwood forest temple.

Day 8: Chiang Rai - Chiang Mai
Via a mountainous and greenery route we drive to Chiang Mai, Thailand's second most important city, located at the Ping River. On the way we will stop to make pictures from the beautiful scenery and surroundings. Then we visit San Kamphaeng, a local industry village. We visit umbrella and handicraft industry and see how the decorative umbrellas will be produced.

Day 9: Chiang Mai
The day starts with a drive to the northern direction. We visit Chiang Dao elephant camp, where you can watch elephants take their daily morning bath and demonstrate their skills. After the show we do a trekking on the back of an elephant and do bamboo rafting down the river. Lunch will be served at an orchid farm, where we can spend time for relaxing and view the beauty of this exotic flower. After lunch we visit Doi Suthep Temple, built at an elevation of 1056 meters above sea level. A staircase reaches the temple with 290 steps flanked by a Naga balustrade on both sides. On the top you have excellent view over the city of Chiang Mai.

Day 10: Chiang Mai - Bangkok
In the morning you have time to discover Chiang Mai by your self. Rent a TUK TUK driver and let him show you the highlights of this ancient city. Do not forget to negotiate a price.

The Warrot market: This market is open from the early morning till late afternoon. A variety of food, vegetables and clothes are sold here.
In the late afternoon we get a transfer to the train station for the night train second class sleeper with air condition to Bangkok.
