Experience of The Northeast Thailand: 8 Days 7 Nights

This trip is a combined experience with historical, culture and some sightseeing touring around the Northeast Thailand provinces. The northeast region is commonly referred to as Isaan (the "I" is pronounced with a long "EE" sound). Isaan has a rich history, with evidence of occupation going back at least 5,000 years. The region is near the heart of the old khmer kingdom, and the ruins of khmer Hindu and Buddhist temples are found throughout the area. In recent years, some rich fossil finds have also sparked keen interest, with a few "Jurassic Parks" to be found here and there. Isaan is probably the least touristy area of Thailand. It’s an excellent place to spend time trying to see the "real" Thailand.

Today there are well over 100 parks, but this one still remains popular. Sprawling over 770 sq miles, the park encompasses wide variety of habitats, including submontane evergreen forests and grasslands. There are also several mountains of around 1000 m (3,300 ft) including Khao Khieo, south of the park headquarters. Wildlife is abundant and includes many endangered mammals such as elephants, gibbons, tigers, leopards, and Malaysian sun bears, as well as more than 300 bird species. In the park we have several stops like at Haeo Suwat Waterfall and watchtowers.

Day 3: Khao Yai – Korat – Surin
Today we drive to the Northeast of Thailand, to the “granary of The Isarn”. Our first visit goes to Dan Kwian pottery village. Then we continue to The Lost Khmer Temples. Prasat Hin Khao Phnom Rung is situated on an extinct volcano. The temple’s construction began early in the 10th century and like others Khmer sites it lies on the route to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Phaonom Rung is the finest Khmer Temple in Thailand and gives more than only a good picture of Angkor Wat. Close by there is Muang Tam, another impressive Khmer temple. Later we arrive at Surin.

Day 6: Loei
In the morning we visit the small village Wang Saphung. It is 20 km southwards from Loei. First of all we visit the Baan Wang Saphung School where the head teacher will give you a small tour through the school. He will be happy to answer all your questions about the school system in Thailand. The more then 700 school children will welcome you friendly. After the visit we will have a lunch in a local restaurant in the middle of the rice fields and rubber plantations. After lunch we make a bicycle tour through Wang Saphung.
