This unique journey takes you from Bangkok through a broad cross section of Thailand’s Northeast, or Isaan provinces. The tour will visit many of important historical sites along the route through the Northeast and across to Northern Thailand and Chiang Mai. Enjoy the many towns and villages and historic sites dating back to the Khmer Period. The tour visits some of Thailand’s most significant pagodas and temples and you will also explore the Mekong River and learn more about the unique culture of Thailand’s Isaan people. This grand and circuitous journey from Bangkok to Chiang Mai will be a most unforgettable experience.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Bangkok - Saraburi – Khorat
We pick you up at your hotel in Bangkok and continue our way to Saraburi where we visit the footprint of Lord Buddha "Pha Phutthabaht". Then we will continue to Phimai an ancient temple out of time of Khmer history. On the route we stop at "Wat Thep Phitak Punnaram" to see the impressive white marble Buddha located on a hill and a visit of a local fruit market at Klang Dong. We will have lunch at a local restaurant. The charming little town of Phimai northeast of Khorat is known for the magnificent Khmer sanctuary Prasat Hin Phimai. Here we will visit the museum and historical park and then we return to Khorat with a stop at one of the biggest Banyan Trees in Thailand.

Day 2: Khorat - Phanom Rung – Surin
In the morning we will have a stroll over the morning groceries market and will visit the monument of Thao Suranari, commemorating Khun Ying Mo, who saved the city from an invasion of the Laotian army during the reign King Rama III. Hereafter we will visit "Wat Sala Loi", which is located on the banks of Takhong River. After visiting the most outstanding feature, the main chapel's shape of a Chinese Junk, we will continue to the pottery village of Dan Kwian.
After having lunch in a local restaurant we will continue to The Lost Khmer Temples. Prasat Hin Khao Phnom Rung temple is situated of an extinct volcano. The temple's construction began early in the 10th century and like other Khmer sites it lies on a route to Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Phanom Rung is the finest Khmer Temple in Thailand and gives more than only a good idea of Angkor Wat. Close by there is Muang Tam, another impressive Khmer temple.

Day 3: Surin - Kong Jiam
After having breakfast at the hotel, we proceed to Ubon and visit a local Isarn market. Then we will continue to Khong Jiam along the Mekong River and will have lunch along banks of this river. In the afternoon we will float by boat over the Mekong River and stop at Wat Hiew Chai temple, which you can explore.

Day 4: Kong Jiam
After breakfast we visit the border market of Thailand – Laos at Chongmeck where products from the Mekong countries "Vietnam, China, Laos and Cambodia" are sold to the local people. Then we will depart to Phra Taem National park to see the pre-historic cliff paintings, which dated back some 2000 to 3000 years. Hereafter we will walk down the trail from where we will not only see the cliff paintings, but can also enjoy superb view of the Mekong River. After lunch we return to the resort.

Day 5: Kong Jiam - Roi Et - Khon Kaen
Today we will departure from Khon Jiam a unique place at the Mekong River. On the way we visit a catholic village with a wooden church. Roi-Et means "hundred and one", which is the exaggeration of 11, the number of states, which belonged to the city once. Here we will find the largest Buddha image in the World, the 68-meter high "Wat Buraphaphiram". Before reaching Khon Kaen we visit a large monkey park "Kosum Phisai", so do not forget to buy fruit and peanuts on the way.

Day 6: Khon Kaen - Loei - Den Sai
Driving through Chum Phae we visit the unknown village Thai Little Kung Ming, this unspoiled village in the middle of the Isarn is surrounded by mountains and has a mystic atmosphere that cannot be describe in words. The Thai word for Loei means "beyond" or "to the farthest extreme", a fitting name for a town that lies in the northernmost part of Northeast Thailand, straddling the edge of the Khorat plateau. We visit a lively local market by the bridge across the river, then Lak Muang or city pillar and Chao Pho Kut Pong an old Chine shrine.

Day 7: Den Sai
After breakfast we visit the wine yards of Chateau the Loei and enjoy the taste of the local wine. Then we return to the resort for relaxing.

Day 8: Den Sai - Phitsanuloke - Sukothai – Tak
After breakfast we visit "Wat Nae Ra Mit Wi Passana Temple" in Den Sai. Hereafter we go to Phitsanuloke, where we visit Wat Mahatat and it's highly revered Buddha statue, Phra Buddha Jinaraj. Then we continue to Sukothai where you visit the ancient's ruins from Sukothai Historical Park and Wat Sri Chum with its gigantic Buddha statue.

Day 9: Tak - Lampang - Lamphun - Chiang Mai
In the early morning we visit one of the most beautiful and famous temples in Northern Thailand, the "Wat Phra That Lampang Luang". The eventful history of this 1000-year-old temple can be discovered in its many details. Then we visit one of the most beautiful elephant’s schools from the North, the "Elephant Conservation Lampang", where we see a natural performance about how these giant animals work in forest industry. A ride on the back of an elephant is optional. After the show we visit FAE's (Friends of Asian Elephants) elephant hospital at the other part of the area. Round lunchtime we visit Dan Kwiang Forest market. This market is known for the variety of grilled, baked and roasted insects.
After lunch we proceed to Lamphun and visit Wat Phra That Haripoonchai, which is one of the most important Buddhist temples in the Northern Thailand. From here it's a short drive to Chiang Mai.
