1 Day Tweelchol Botanic Garden, Doi Saket and Handicraft Villages
The area to the Northeast of Chiang Mai, near the town of Doi Saket is only recently being discovered as a change of scenery and a new culture for visitors. The highlight of this tour is a visit to the Tweechol Botanic Gardens. This spectacular garden complex with one of the largest plant collections in Thailand. The gardens consists of 114 acres ( 285 rai ) of outdoor display and recreation areas. There is also a small zoo and a museum. The gardens will be followed by a trip to Doi Saket where we will take you to the mountain top temple and have our lunch after enjoying the splendid views. Following lunch, the tour will take you to BoSang/San Kampaeng villages where you will be able to browse the many handicraft factories and wholesale outlets. See umbrella making, saa paper production, wood carving and silk production. The entire tour takes you only 20 kilometers outside of Chiang Mai, making for a most relaxing and enjoyable day trip.

Itinerary:
08:00 am Pick you up at the hotel, drive the Doi Saket Highway to Tweechol Botanic Garden. Tweechol Botanical garden, just opened in 1997, is a place to visit, relax, rejuvenate, and experience the beauty of nature. The purpose of the garden is for display, education, research, conservation and enjoyment. The garden is located 10Km NE of Chiang Mai near the village of Doi Saket. At Tweechol you will see a small lake, streams, waterfalls, domed greenhouses, butterflies and many flowers. Enjoy the dozens of clever topiaries (flock of geese, 130 meter long dragons, elephants and many, many other animals). Have fun in the living labyrinth, visit the herb garden, palm garden, organic farm and much more.

At the Chaiharn Museum, you can visit 4 main collection rooms. The Buddha room has a display of Buddha images for viewing and prayer. Visitors can also pay respect to the late wife of King Rama V in the Chaodara room. The Chaiham room displays a collection of ancient Lanna weapons. In the Tamsin room are a large number of artifacts from the founder’s personal collection.

Doi Saket is a charming rural village set in a rich, green valley that is one of the most beautiful settings in the Chiang Mai area. In the center of the village, on a hill overlooking the valley is the Doi Saket temple. This temple, set half in a forest and half on the open hilltop, has recently been expanded and shows some of the best of Chiang Mai's temple architecture and the views are picture perfect.

The Bo Sang and San Kampaeng handicraft villages offer a wide range of factories and handicraft wholesale shops and an afternoon here will give you a taste of the types of traditional and hand crafted products that have made the area famous. There are many nooks and crannies to explore along this quaint stretch of road and the shops and factories you chose to visit will be up to your personal preference. You can see local handmade umbrella and fan, mulberry (saa) paper products, silk products, silver and gem stones, celadon ceramics, wood products, and more. Our guide will help you navigate the villages and we will not take you into any shops for our personal profit; an unfortunate occurrence that can be a bother for many tourists.
In the handicraft villages you will not just see the products but you will also learn about their production and the importance of this industry to the traditional Thai lifestyle. This is a full day and will give you a good appreciation of the area to the north and east of the city.
