This is an exciting day tour to see the famous Elephant Conservation Center and to see the highlights of the Lampang/Lamphun area. This is a very interesting tour, somewhat off the beaten path and rich in Thai history. Don't forget to bring your camera!
Itinerary:
08:30 am leave from Chiang Mai to Lampang, one of ancient cities of northern Thailand. It's history dates back all the way to the 7th century, which accounts for the unique artistic, cultural and architectural aura. Traces of ancients are still noticeable.
Visit the Thai Elephant Conservation Center, with more than forty elephants lovingly trained for the purpose of entertaining you. You will love the antics of these amiable beasts. The centre also serves as an elephant hospital.
The tour will then take you to Wat Phra That Lampang Luang one of the main places of worship for the Northern people and an absolute must see. Built in the 13th century, the stairways at the front gate symbolize crossing the river of redemption before entering heaven, while the four walls represent the universe. Once inside, one feels permeated by the majesty of the place as time seems to stand still.
The tour will then continue North, towards Chiang Mai and stopping in Lamphun. Lamphun, a small town compared with other cities, is fascinating in it's own right. It was once the capital of a great Kingdom before the Lanna period. It was formerly known as Hariphunchai. The Kindom was established in the 6th century and after a brilliant history became part of the Lan Na Kingdom. The symbol of this small but lovely city is Wat Phra That Hariphunchai. The Golden Chedi, which is almost a thousand years old; built in 1044 by Queen Chama Dheve and renovated in 1930. Interesting vestiges can be seen around the area and a magnificent gilded bronze castle stands around the Chedi.
Once you have had a chance to fully explore this area you will be returned to your hotel with many fond memories and fine photos.
